This year, we will welcome the 9th Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival. This edition of the photo festival will continue to focus on the medium of "photography books" as a means of photography exhibition and creation.
The "Space on Paper Jimei x Arles Book Exhibition" is now open for submissions! In this edition, we will also establish the inaugural "Jimei x Arles Dummy Book Award," which will be presented to photo books that have not been formally published, but have been shortlisted for the exhibition.
We welcome artists and art institutions from around the world to submit any form of photography and text picture books, as well as books on photography theory. All selected photography books will be exhibited at the 2023 Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival.
Since its establishment in 2021, the "Space on Paper-Jimei x Arles Book Exhibition" has showcased over a hundred photography books from artists and art institutions both domestically and internationally. The aim is to present the current development of contemporary Chinese photography books, promote exceptional creators of photography books, and establish a platform for the exhibition and exchange of photography books.
Jimei x Arles Dummy Book Award
The award is open to unpublished photography printing dummy books and handmade photo books, aiming to encourage and support artists in their creative endeavors based on photography books.
All submissions that have not been formally published, once shortlisted, will automatically participate in the selection process for this award. The results of the selection will be announced during the opening period of the Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival. The award winner will receive a prize of 10,000 RMB (before tax).
Photography theoretical books, institutional publications, and works that have already been published and distributed will be included in the book exhibition after being shortlisted, but they will not be considered for the "Jimei x Arles Dummy Book Award".
Submission Requirements
Eligibility: Age and nationality are not restricted. Participants must be the creators of the exhibited works. In the case of copyright or portrait rights disputes, participants will bear the legal responsibilities. If any infringement is confirmed, the participant's exhibition eligibility will be revoked.
Submission Requirements: There are no restrictions on the subject or theme and also no limit to the number of submissions. Submitted works should have been published or created after January 1, 2022.
Formats of Works: Photography and text books, photography theoretical books. (Including but not limited to handmade books, independent publications, and institutional publications; photography theoretical books, institutional publications, and works that have already been published and distributed will be exhibited but will not be considered for the "Jimei x Arles Dummy Book Award" selection).
Participation Process
1. Please prepare the following materials:
·Author's resume
·Book introduction
·10 images of the book (scanned files of the book cover and inner pages, or electronic screenshots); For submissions of photography theoretical books, include a brief description of the book's content, cover, table of contents, and at least three chapters of text content.
·A flipbook video within 50MB (showcasing the complete flipping through of the entire photography book); Theoretical books do not require this.

The list of shortlisted participants will be announced by the end of October 2023. Shortlisted participants will need to send a physical copy of the book to the Three Shadows Xiamen Photography Art Center for participation in the exhibition.
