WHY IS OUR MEMORY ALWAYS BLACK AND WHITE ?

    CURATED BY FENG BOYI

Li Qiang’s work takes images and texts from various published magazines and collages them together by using a kind of “tearing”, destructive method. By doing so, he forms a new medium of reality: a relationship between propaganda and truth. With this new reality, a space for new vernacular is also created.

These magazines are closely related to our daily lives, dictating society’s attention and understanding of information. Li Qiang creates a “mutual image” by reprocessing the original texts and images. This sort of “intervention” of the originals means an active transformation which requires the viewer to weave through these changes to imagine their original conceptions.
