Shao Wenhuan has been elected to take the SMart artist-residence program in 2019

The selection of artist-residence program award of SMArt in Switzerland in 2019 was announced: artist Shao Wenhuanwas finally elected. At the same time, Three Shadows is very grateful to everyone who took part in this event.    

 

After fierce primary election, the eight artists nominated were made up of Three Shadows Photography Art Centre, Crochetan Theater in Monthey, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation(SDC), Canton of Valais, Foundation for the sustainable development of mountain areas(FDDM) and Ecole cantonale d’art du Valais(ECAV) voted to produce the ultimate winner. 

 

From February 1st to April 30th, the final winner artist will have an opportunity to visit Switzerland for free for three months and enjoy the resident studio and other living facilities. The artist will be free to create the theme, which is called “the global challenges facing the mountain region”(climate change, water management, geological migration, food safety) and will hold an exhibition at Three Shadows Photography Art Centrein 2019.

 

“ Shao’s art research is deeply rooted in Asian philosophy, classic painting and poetry. Moreover, his photography shows an interest in the communication of Western thought and art history. He combines the aesthetic traditions of Chinese painting with photography and state-of-the-art digital technology to present existential thinking about the human condition and its positioning in relation to nature, space and time.
