Workshop Description:

This workshop is focusing on the medium photography asconceptual art. More specifically on constructed image, thus image makinginvolving intervention and manipulation of the subject. Rather than recording a‘real’ event image construction enables the artist to elaborate more, to gomore in depth in meaning and detail when addressing aconcept or creating a narrative. A constructed image can be forexample a still life, a built or altered environment or a scene, a performancefor the camera, or consist of archival material. It can also expand todifferent forms of manipulated image or to combinations of different approaches. The participants will experiment with and develop idea-driven projects orstudies. The workshop covers different elements in creating conceptual andthematic imagery, in and outside the mediumphotography, from idea generation through execution.

The participants should be comfortable with thetechniques they eventually would like to apply (such as, for example, handmademontage, computer manipulation, photography and object, expanded cinema, or anycombination of techniques): The workshop does not coverassistance or introduction to technical skills or qualities of photography. Itfunctions more as a stimulus for experimentation with different ideas andmethods for working with conceptual photography.
